When Barack Obama won the fierce battle between he and John McCain to become the leader of the free world it solidified the belief that nonsense could become doctrine if one and only one criterion was met. That one element is abundance. Think about the odds for a man who has no background in running anything, to become the President of the greatest country on earth. It would be difficult to believe that such a tilted reality could occur. But, there is a very fine line between insanity and culture. Because so many people believed his message and because so many were encouraged, this outlandish and impossible task by a man who has a tarnished and questionable background became foundational and plausible. That’s what happens when an insane, albeit an impossible dream surges through the unsuspecting culture.
If a man with a white beard insisted that his was a red beard, those surrounding him would logically label him either mentally unstable or insane. If he proved his intelligence but still insisted that his beard was red, in fact he would have to be insane to hold such a belief. Until that is, he is able to convince just one other individual that his facial hair was the color of the ruby. He could use any method imaginable in order to convince another of this fallacy. He could bribe someone. He could offer something in return. He could threaten another. Or he could just convince them because he has a cunning and smooth personality and oratory skills that are unequalled. No matter, now two people hold the “red beard” theory. Guess what happens at that point? They are no longer considered to be insane. They now have become a small cult who shares a belief. The normal and expected challenge of any cult is to grow, if only for its own comfort and support or perhaps devious means.
So the cult grows and the cult is accepted, until something unexpected takes place. The cult reaches its own tipping point by attracting just one more person whereby it becomes larger than the culture of which it was a part. The cult becomes the culture and insanity becomes the norm. This is exactly what happened in the election and this is why we have a president-elect who spews insane propaganda heard only by the 57 million Americans who couldn’t vote for him, under any circumstances.
The day after the election, I was astonished to see a televised report of an Obama celebration party where a hysterical woman who was so happy she just shouted over and over again, “I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car” and “I won’t have to worry about paying my mortgage.” I watched with great confusion as the coverage went to a college celebration with students waving flags featuring Hammer and Sickle symbols of the Soviet Union, once America’s arch enemy. Like I said, there is a very fine line between insanity and culture.
On top of this pure confusion by the masses that elected Mr. Obama, I am frightened that we may have already seen the best of him. When one examines his past, it’s easy to surmise that his whole professional life has been about campaigning for something or another. The highest prize now won leaves little more except governing to do next. There’s a problem with that. He has never governed anything. He’s never run a company. He’s never run a city or a state and now we have to watch him try to run our country. This is not easy viewing as he has only one direction; left.
Obama’s first directive as President-elect is to stimulate the economy the only way he knows. Give away more hundreds of billions of dollars to those he says needs it most. So, we wait to see the second phase of this giveaway program that hasn’t worked in its first incarnation, not one iota. There is already talk of a third phase of this free-for-all. Mark my words; there will be a third phase and most likely more after that. Then there’s the new developments of giving money to failing businesses that happen to be union run, like the automobile industry that is now looking to collect on the debt Obama owes by benefiting from eons of Detroit auto workers sent out to vote for him. Is it any wonder that as Mr. Obama gave his first talk to America after his victory, the stock market plunged over 200 points? Is it any wonder that Wall Street has lost over 1,000 points in its Dow Jones average since the victory? Is this our new culture or are we all insane?
I’d like to hear your response, either here or at alp@JSEcomputers.com.
