I have just come off a dizzying schedule of Broadcast Interviews to promote www.PreserveTheAmericanDream.com (PAID) and my hopes are that I’m reaching the very people who can appreciate the virtues of experiencing the American Dream. Nothing ties that knot better than the email I received from a listener named Cali of WZTK Raleigh/Durham/High Point, NC where I appeared on Allen Handleman’s show for 3 full hours on Monday night. I was so moved by Cali and the personal and professional struggle she has bravely endured for years that I decided to print her letter here with her permission. I will follow up with my thoughts at the end. Here’s her letter:

I found myself in the Palisade, New York Shopping Mall last Friday and by impulse I actually purchased $20.00 in lottery tickets after realizing that the Mega lottery prize was over $200,000,000. I thought that an additional 200 million dollars might fit nicely into my retirement plans. I don’t usually participate but I always leave room for divine intervention even though this time I was blindsided and did not win the fortune. Either did anyone else! Can you imagine? As I was making the purchase which would assure my mega-wealthy retirement, I remember asking myself why I was wasting my money and of course it had nothing to do with greed, but I was fooled, for sure, by all those bright colors and blinking lights and the laborious sound of that machine grinding out the tickets. It was all very appealing. Yeah, that’s what did it. The theatrics made me buy those tickets. It was like they were saying this is a guaranteed thing. I was already counting the piles of hundreds floating very comfortably in my mind. The state of New York and whatever other mean forces combined together to “make me” buy those tickets. They did it through every manipulating and brainwashing technique they could muster. I’m sure the same effect was experienced by the line of unfair and one-sided marketing influenced people behind me who were all as mesmerized as me.

After spending the last few weeks as vacation time with family I thought it was time to get back into the swing of things. I can only take so much of reading the papers and knowing the insanity going on in the country without committing my thoughts to paper. But I came back to reality with a BANG. While reclining on a beach chair I received a cell phone call from a producer working for the Air America Network and he had an interest in having me on the air to discuss what he called my controversial views on taking voting rights away from people who don’t pay taxes. Always interested in setting the record straight and getting the word out about PreserveTheAmericanDream.com I agreed to participate and before I knew it he was gone. The usual routine consists of a bit of a pre-interview and at least a few questions and responses before the actual show. Not here. So, I knew I was in for an interesting on-air contest.
